E-Patos

We are gearing up for our boat trip to Seattle next week and decided to have a short test run to Patos island....success. The boat seems to have come through a very wet and windy winter without any obvious problems.
Kids say the most lovely, heart-swelling things. Sometimes they work at it. They want to express their love. I see them work hard to put feelings into words.

These emotions are intense and hard to articulate. I know, because I struggle to come up with new ways to say them too.

Sometimes the most expressive of these tender words just slip out. Tonight Finny woke up as I was heading into bed. She didn't open her eyes, but she wrapped her arms around my neck in her tight and uniquely Finny way.

"Mumma," she said, "if I didn't have you...my life would be a real stinker."

Right back at you, baby girl.

E- crossing over

Lukey spent a long time explaining to me today that wearing a Leafs jersey didn't mean he supported them, he is actually cheering for Vancouver.

We have been skating together about 3 times a week since November and he has made huge progress. The one thing he hasn't wanted to do is cross-overs. For some reason they really scare him, so he was pretty reluctant when they were introduced into his class.

He had so much pride after the lesson as he told me cross-overs actually weren't that bad and he kind of likes then now. He wasn't very interested however in my follow up lesson of the importance of trying new things even if they scare you.

E- Sports Day 2011

Sports Day returned for yet another year and miraculously we had a nice day....one month from the solstice and it's one of the first nice days we've had.  The kids were pretty pumped and didn't let a second place finish for team red dampen their spirits.  However, there was some serious talk around our house of a Sport Day conspiracy by the score keepers.  I figure it's not much of a conspiracy when they openly admit to giving out generous amounts of sportsmanship points on every event.

E-Lynn Canyon

After our recent day skiing, I took the girls to exploreLynn canyon. It's one of those places I have always meant to go but just never seem to get there.....probably because it is so close by that we put it off for another time.
As you can see, the girls were fascinated by the river and could easily have spent the whole day.

We are watching the hockey game and molly disappeared upstairs. When I went to investigate, I found her at her desk...WRITING POETRY!

E- Grouse

Until I was 17 I skied more than 20 times every year.  In the 20 years since I have skied less than a dozen times, so I expected to be a bit rusty when I took the girls up Grouse Mountain today.

However, with only the basic Cut runs open and some decent new boots and shape skis, I felt back in the swing of things quickly.   The girls are also doing well skiing.  Molly has slightly better technique but is slower and more cautious than Fin, who doesn't  show any fear on the hill.

Today was a successful trial run.  The kids and I all have Y2Play passes for next year and we are looking forward to getting up out of the winter rain together.
